Schoolies First Aid

This Non-Accredited Schoolies First Aid Course for Year 12 students who are attending organised Schoolies events or travelling with friends. It is designed to provide participants with important life saving knowledge and skills so if they find themselves in a situation that requires First Aid treatment they know what to do. In a medical emergency we never know how far away emergency services are, this is why it's important we make sure our kids are equipped with basic life saving skills so they can assist their, friends and family as best they can.

This is a practical session with no pre-course work required to be completed.

Course Description

Schoolies First Aid is designed to equip Year 12 students attending end of year celebrations with life saving knowledge and skills so they are know what to do should they find themselves in a medical emergency.

Participants will learn:

- what CPR is, when you should perform CPR and how to perform CPR

- what an AED is, how to use an AED and how to locate the nearest AED

- what to do if someone passes out from excessive alcohol consumption

- drug awareness and what to do if someone has a drug overdose or a drink spiked

- what to do in a choking, asthma and anaphylaxis situation

- how to control bleeding

- how to apply a sling

Be a current year 12 student

Activities

Participants will participate in the following activities

- CPR on an adult manikin

- use of an AED on an adult manikin

- roll a person into the recovery position

- administer an Epipen

- administer Asthma medication

- deliver back and chest blows for choking on an adult manikin

- control a bleed
